Body Tjak / The Celebration
Body Music, kecak, rhythm dance, drums, flute, gongs, rocks, bamboo, and voice. A twelve-member ensemble of musicians and dancers from North and South America and the Indonesian islands of Bali, West Java, and Sumatra.
Since 1981 the Body Tjak Project is an ongoing collaboration between percussionist/body musician Keith Terry, and I Wayan Dibia, Balinese choreographer/composer. Body Tjak / The Celebration, the second in the series, was performed in 1999 at the Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar and at Theater Artaud, San Francisco. Combining Body Music and Kecak, Body Tjak has become a performance genre used in contemporary Balinese work. Founded in 1980 by Artistic Director Keith Terry, Crosspulse is an Oakland, California based arts organization dedicated to the creation, performance, and recording of rhythm-based, intercultural music and dance.
