An introduction to traditional styles of playing the body as an instrument, found around the world. Includes basic ideas from Hambone (USA), Balinese Kecak and Sumatran Saman (Indonesia), Rus (Morocco), Palmas (Spain), and foundational rhythmic concepts.
Body Music Mini-Lessons 5.1-5.3 are longer lessons that engage students directly. Aimed at grades 2-5, kids follow along, learning and playing in real time with Keith Terry. Fun for anyone, the Body Music for Kids Mini-Lessons are useful in and out of curricula, for activities that do not require a teacher to lead.

Body Music – clapping, slapping, snapping, stepping and vocalizing – is an amalgam of composition and choreography, music you can , dance you can . Likely the first music/dance, the various Body Musics of the world contain kinesthetic ‘libraries’ of memories and cultural heritage, and blur the lines between music and dance. Keith Terry, a pioneer of contemporary Body Music since 1978, has developed a methodology widely utilized by professional artists, educators and others for skill building, coordination, rhythmic timing and exploration, and ensemble awareness. Body Music Mini-Lessons are focused activities for exploring the art form, and useful activities for teachers of any subject to explore with students.
